Job Description


The Corporate Controller is an integral member of the executive team responsible for the financial management the Company. They will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination in the financial, strategic planning and accounting and budgeting areas of our business.

The Corporate Controller will oversee all strategic and tactical matters as they pertain to budget preparation and management, financial advisement and reporting, taxation, accounting finance, risk management, treasury, cash flow forecasting and cost control. Additionally, this role will monitor insurance, audit, investment and all regulatory compliance requirements for the organization.

The Corporate Controller is responsible to review and analyze all data and provide accurate, thorough and defendable financial plans, annual operating plans and annual and monthly budgets. They will be responsible to analyze, trouble shoot and provide accurate projections and forecasts that will be used to guide the business.

They will be a proven leader, strong negotiator and business advisor and focused on constantly looking for better ways to run the business and for continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Must have Corporate Controller experience in a CPG and Warehousing/Distribution organization.
  • In consultation with the General Manager and banking institutions, will develop, monitor and analyze financial plans inclusive of annual operating plan and budget, cash flow, forecasting, asset management, and financing strategies, initiating corrective actions and minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Govern and ensure compliance to the fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities of the organization. This includes managing risk, interpreting legislation to ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, local and contractual guidelines, disseminating government and taxation regulations to appropriate personnel and monitoring compliance.
  • Ensure internal controls are implemented and substantiating documentation is available, to ensure all financial matters pass independent and government audits
  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of financial and management reporting. Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Manages Senior Corporate Controller functions inclusive of all treasury functions, coordination of audits and proper filing of tax returns
  • Manage legal and insurance affairs for the organization consulting with appropriate internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Manages, troubleshoots and acts as the liaison point for Sage (ACCPAC) and associated technologies relating to Accounting and Sales. Project Management of implementation of new software systems.
  • Support the Senior Management team in appropriate hands on financial management of their business units. Engage with direct reports and ensure they are given the necessary support to grow in their roles, technically and professionally. Leverage your expertise for the benefit of the financial and organizational performance through informal, coaching and training methods.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum of ten years Corporate Controller experience and must be in a CPG and Warehouse/Distribution organization.
  • Undergraduate degree with a focus on business and finance/accounting.
  • CPA or CA designation is essential
  • Ability to recognize and communicate efficiency opportunities and implement new processes
  • Advanced analytical, interpersonal, communication and attention to detail skills
  • Strong understanding of IT systems and proficient with all Microsoft products. Must have expert level Sage (ACCPAC) experience
  • Excellent understanding of financial management, accounting and taxation principles and internal controls specific to a small, dynamic and growing company
  • Demonstrated leadership background with the ability to communicate financial information and influence positive change
