Job Description

National Importers is seeking an experienced, strategic Senior Financial Controller.

We are a Vancouver B.C. Consumer Packaged Goods company that has, since 1947 been an importer and distributor of specialty foods from all over the globe for resale in the Canadian and US Markets.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in a CPG environment and will work closely with senior management to build new processes and drive process improvement. Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will lead the accounting and financial functions with responsibility for overall Financial Reporting and will work closely with senior management on strategic planning to achieve business growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of Accounting and Finance; including the review of accounts payable, accounts receivable and statutory reporting.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for:
    • Annual budgets and monthly forecasting processes.
    • Cash flow management.
    • Accurate and timeliness of financial information; includes preparation, analysis and presentation of monthly, quarterly and annual operating results.
    • Process improvements that affect accounting and financials.
  • Provide advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting.
  • Coordinate year-end audit and preparation of audited financial statements as well as all other customer and government audits.
  • Work with:
    • Sales team and Brand Managers on product pricing, margins and process improvement.
    • Logistic / Purchasing team on standard costing and inventory management.
    • Marketing team on pricing, product listings, ROI and brand marketing budgets.
    • Business Development team on new product development costings & margins.
    • Corporate IT department to implement system changes that will improve work flow efficiency within the accounting department.
  • Trains, mentors and supervises accounting staff.

Requirements

  • University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree or professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA) preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related position.
  • Good knowledge of ERP systems; proficiency in EPICOR an asset.
  • Experience in a CPG, importing and distribution environment preferred.
  • Finance experience within the food distribution industry would be an asset.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proven strategic thinking, bottom-line, results-oriented approach.
