The Site Technical Manager has responsibility for managing and improving operational risks, equipment reliability and system integrity through the leadership of Maintenance and Engineering resources across the site. The Technical Manager creates a culture of ownership and capability at the site and delivers results through proactive strategies and tool implementation. The Technical Manager leads a team of 5-10 direct reports which may include Maintenance & Utilities Leads, Reliability Engineers, Maintenance Planners, Sr Control Techs and Site Project Engineers. This position also has responsibility for up to 25 indirect maintenance associates in their organization. This position is a key senior member of the Site Leadership Team.

Accountable for:

  • The development and delivery of multi-year maintenance and engineering strategy to execute and deliver critical KPI’s for Supply Chain/Operations.
  • Leading and facilitating the Progressive Maintenance Pillar
  • Management of all utilities, maintenance, & engineering at the site.
  • Technical asset management from early equipment management, project management (i.e. design, installation, vertical start-up), optimization, maintenance and retirement.
  • The delivery of new product initiatives at the site to meet business needs.
  • Ensuring compliance to Mars standards related to technical job function of the site.
  • Managing Maintenance costs to ensure the budgeting process is accurate and the department meets the business requirements.
  • Delivers site engineering projects to scope, timing, and costs.
  • Develops and sustains maintenance predictive technology strategies to provide a proactive maintenance culture.
  • Active and contributing member of the Mars Wrigley Confectionery Americas Regional Technical Manager Community of Practice (CoP) by sharing expertise / information, developing and implementing regional best practices and standards.
  • Maintenance and Engineering team engagement and associate development.

Associate Accountabilities

  • Develops personal leadership and managerial skills
  • Provides leadership to continuously improve the effectiveness of the technical function
  • Fosters the development of others
  • Drives for Excellence in Execution
  • Develops and implements strategies to ensure that the Maintenance Department delivers equipment reliability (Planned and Unplanned Maintenance Losses) for agreed cost (Labor and Production Expenses)
  • Stays current with functional tools and methodologies in Maintenance and Engineering

Business Accountabilities

  • Develops projects that meet business and regional activity plans
  • Communicates with all Stakeholders to ensure all project objectives are clearly defined and achieved
  • Ensures the delivery of scope, time, budget and cash flow for all projects
  • Leads team members to gain and sustain a technical competitive advantage
  • Drives initiatives that improve implementation efficiencies as well as operational efficiencies
  • Drives lean ways of working in the engineering process and as a project deliverable

Functional Accountabilities

  • Provides innovative solutions resulting in sustained technical competitive advantage
  • Provides project solutions with value added engineering and lean design
  • Delivers projects that maximize asset utilization
  • Supports the development of technology platforms for providing a sustained technical advantage
  • Drives to identify, protect and expand intellectual property of the corporation
  • Develops standards for equipment, systems and engineering processes and collaborate with other senior engineers and global technical teams
  • Develops external business relationships including construction contractors and engineering resources
  • Proactively develops practices and methodologies that increase the effectiveness and reduces the costs of engineering

Leadership Accountabilities

  • Provides strategic and technical leadership to the Maintenance and Engineering teams
  • Effectively represents the Regional Maintenance and Engineering function
  • Manages project teams to meet project objectives as agreed upon by stakeholders
  • Manages technical project associates that may be distributed across multiple sites
  • Supports the adherence to the Five Principles
  • Leads cross-functional teamwork

1. Education & Professional Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical related field preferred
  • In-depth understanding of maintenance and engineering principals – knowledge of technical disciplines: Process, Packaging or Electrical/Controls are preferable
  • Team skills – high performance team experiences
  • CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Process) certification or working to obtain within 18 months of placement into roll

2. Knowledge/Experience

  • 10 years of experience preferred. Related experience in a CPG manufacturing environment or similar industry. Experience must include manufacturing based maintenance and engineering with project/systems emphasis.
  • Maintenance and/or Engineering Leadership experience (10 years of experience preferred)
  • Recognized technical abilities and practical experience with strong capabilities in the following areas:
    • Thery/functionality of manufacturing systems and unit operations
    • Cntinuous improvement techniques
    • Prblem solving and analytical methods
    • Prcess measurement and control
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects/initiatives within budget
  • TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) type experience with emphasis on PM (Progress Maintenance) and EM (Early Management) pillar leadership desirable
