Purpose of Role:

A Maintenance Lead’s role is to effectively and efficiently communicate, facilitate, co-ordinate, and prioritize all maintenance activities within their area. This position requires working closely with other supply groups particularly Operations (Value Steam), QF&S, HSE, Training, and Engineering to ensure consistent product quality, productivity and safety. The Maintenance Lead will make assignments and monitor progress, co-ordinate training, schedule, and develop associates in their area of responsibility. The Maintenance Lead is responsible for developing and implementing continuous improvement activities that address safety, quality, and efficiency. The Maintenance Lead is responsible for detailed planning of planned work in their area. Leads must have in-depth knowledge of maintenance activities and be recognized as an expert in multiple technologies. The Maintenance Lead role requires strong leadership, communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support Site objectives.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead all aspects of the sites Reactive Maintenance team, including apprentices.
  • Train associates to interpret data (trend data, identify root cause, implement solution).
  • Analyze and develop permanent solutions to prevent chronic or significant reliability issues.
  • Oversee of quality or product conformance issues to ensure corrective/preventative actions are implemented and completed.
  • Provide project planning and estimate moderately complex jobs.
  • Train Associates on safe operating procedures.
  • Provide input as appropriate regarding safety.
  • Ensure working conditions are Normal and enforce safety requirements.
  • Use and follow all engineering standards when implementing projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement by developing and implementing systems that optimize all phases of the manufacturing process and support key business objectives (waste, labor, reliability, ATS, line capacity, etc.).
  • Provide input to feasibility and change management requests.
  • Resource to other Sites and across areas.
  • Identify, report and help any potential product contamination issue.
  • Maintains clean work environment including 5S adherence and follow through to ensure completion of action plans to address sources of contamination.
  • Support role in cleaning and sanitation of area.
  • Communicate job and development expectations to associates
  • Provide performance coaching and feedback to associates on a regular basis
  • Involved with hiring decisions along with Manager
  • Team Engagement including facilitation of team building discussions
  • Provide supplemental input for associates’ performance reviews
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve non-routine issues at root cause and incorporate into preventive actions.
  • Develop best practices for area and insure best practices are followed.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ability to complete root cause failure analysis on issues involving reliability, product/packaging defects, downtime and slow time.
  • Effectively works and communicates with all departments (scheduling, engineering, R&D, IE, logistics, operations, etc.)

  • General skills and basic mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
  • Able to lead a team of highly skilled associates
  • Demonstrates technical/analytical skills by effectively performing troubleshooting and repair/replace on modules of expertise
  • Knowledge of the line or area goals and performance
  • Proficient at analyzing information concerning module of expertise
  • Understands performance metrics (ATS, TRS, waste, etc.)
  • Understands direct impact on internal and external customers

Key Experiences

  • Ability to troubleshoot at the system level on operational basis. Troubleshoots non-routine problems at the system level and leads routine PMs and minor enhancements
  • Must have a good understanding of interfacing with PLC's, scales and display devices.
  • Basic experience in selecting and installation process instrumentation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Decision Making Authority and Impact

  • Implement the effective use of time, materials, etc. to achieve completion of schedule
    • When to start machine maintenance periods, which systems out of the area to run or shut down, in co-operation with the Operations group.
  • Produce Quality finished products
    • Constantly monitor the product and materials against our quality standards, questions and respond to product/materials that do not meet our standards.
  • Implementing improvements when required, complying with site GMP and Visual Workplace guidelines.
    • Facilitate improvements of area to maintain clean, efficient, and orderly work environment
  • Safety of Associates
    • Proactively engaged in the development of World Class Safety for the site.
  • Staffing
    • The co-ordination of the right resources in the right place at the right time
  • Failure to perform this job in a competent and expedient manner can result in extended slow time or downtime, possible damage to major equipment and possible health safety risks to the individual or others.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma
  • 3+ years’ experience in an manufacturing environment within a technical capacity (controls, electrical or mechanical)
  • 2+ years of management/leadership within a technical capacity
  • Understanding of TPM or continuous improvement experience
  • Advanced command of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
  • Ability to collaborate and work cross functionally with various internal/external partners and influence when needed
  • Strong written, communication, listening, and influencing skills

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  • 7+ years of experience in management/leadership capacity in a manufacturing environment
  • Six Sigma certification and/or TPM or Continuous improvement experience
  • Previous proven success managing Budgets
