Job Summary

The Portfolio Manager leads the development and execution of the brand plans to drive company growth and profit. The Portfolio Manager works with the entire cross-functional team (customer, sales, scientific communication, Finance and supply chain) and outside agencies towards delivering brand contributions to the business.

Key Accountabilities

The main objective of the Feline Portfolio Manager is to lead the development and growth of the Feline Health Nutrition category for Royal Canin SPT.

Portfolio Planning:

  • Develop, execute and own the strategic brand marketing plans and tactics to build overall brand strength and consumer awareness while contributing towards the organization’s growth and profit objectives.

Program Development:

  • Responsible for adaptation of global creative into the local market by selecting and modifying the most appropriate messaging to deliver impact in-market.
  • Actively involved in the development of creative in support of building brand awareness and performance; briefing and guiding outside agency relationships to ensure program development is aligned to the strategic brand message and deliverable.
  • Primary responsibility for managing consumer incentives programs (e.g. coupons) including set-up, deployment and post-game analysis for support of on-going offer analysis.

New Product Launches & Analysis:

  • Lead and /or support the development and execution of tactical plans, including promotional plans, sampling, media, customer marketing roll-out and support, etc., ensuring they are “on strategy’ and support the broader strategic brand marketing plans toward generating trial usage or building consumer awareness and usage for existing items.
  • Deploy feline innovations in the Canadian market, through close collaboration with Regional Marketing Manager for the Americas and the Global marketing team.

Volume Analysis (launches, promotions, and periodic)

  • Monitor and evaluate the ongoing results associated with the Feline portfolio performance including volume, distribution trends and other data, to understand and effectively communicate brand performance and assess the impact of specific tactical plans and decisions on the brand while recognizing and recommending adjustments to specific activities that are not driving the desired outcomes.
  • Primary responsibility for the periodical reporting for the pillar delivering commentary to the Americas Leadership team by combining inputs from Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain stakeholders.

Financial & Budget Management:

  • Evaluate the financials associated with different brand programs and initiatives and handle the day-to-day activities associated with maintaining the brand budgets, including the review and approval of related expenses associated with brand support (promotion, etc.)

Cross functional teams

  • Lead cross-functional teams involved in the creation or support of brand extensions and the development and execution of marketing programs and initiatives; ensure that all functional and/or line groups are properly represented and participating in a coordinated and focused effort.
  • Lead cross-species and/or cross-pillar activation and deployment as required based on calendar of activities for large scale promotional opportunities.

Build The Feline Brand To Become “The Reference” In Nutrition

  • Working very closely with the scientific communication department to ensure the right tools are developed to support the feline programs and educate both our field team and retail partners about Royal Canin’s nutritional philosophy.

Key Lateral Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other members of the Marketing team- Portfolio Manager, Field Marketing manager, Shopper Marketing Manager, Customer Marketing Manager)
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders (Customer Business Managers, Sales Managers, Finance, Supply chain, Scientific Communication and Consumer Affairs)
  • Supporting and adhering to all Mars Signature Process (QMP, S&OP+, etc.)
  • Manage external agency relationships

Key Knowledge and Experience

  • 3 - 5 yrs previous work experience in marketing, preferably Consumer Packaged Goods
  • University Degree (required), preferably in Business/Marketing/Brand Management
  • Marketing/Business expertise (required)
  • Project Management skills (required)
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams (required)
  • Experience in advertising and media planning; working with agencies (required)
  • Bilingual (French and English) an asset
  • Understanding of Pet Specialty market and dynamics an asset
