Position Summary

The Senior Business Development Manager is the Indirect Retail Team lead, responsible for leading their team in the achievement of annual sales and profit targets, ensuring effective forecasting and trade management. You will play a crucial role in managing and growing key strategies and relationships across the Route to Market encompassing the Convenience and Proximity Retail landscape (CGP). Your primary focus will be developing strategic business plans and mentoring your team in establishing strong relationships across internal stakeholders and external partners, implementing areas for improvement, driving innovation, and managing mix to drive revenue growth.

Responsibilities:

Key Account Management:

  • Build and strengthen relationships across customers, brokers, distributor, re-distributor and field sales partners.
  • Develop understanding of each account's unique needs, to provide tailored solutions in delivery of overall growth strategy across the CGP landscape, with an eye to Foodservice overlap.
  • Identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to expand market share across entire Route to Market from distributor to account to field execution.
  • Regularly analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to refine strategies and stay ahead in the market.
  • Negotiate and implement annual agreements/ contracts, to achieve sales targets, support activity, price increases & costing with customer.
  • Communicate changes to CAG policy, discontinued items, pricing actions, recalls /product quality issues to customer.

Sales:

  • Delivering Annual Net Sales & Profit targets, managing the customer P&Ls
  • Utilize multiple sources of data to identify opportunities and prepare selling presentations.
  • Proactively develop and present business strategies and tactics to drive portfolio results.
  • Demonstrate ability to drive sales results while providing best in class customer service
  • Manage and execute trade shows in collaboration with the business teams.
  • Manage new product launches and work on strategies to expand distribution across CGP.
  • Maximize all sales opportunities through alignment and support from the Retail Field Team.

Business Planning/Financial accountability:

  • Support team in delivery of accurate sales forecasts and reporting on performance of key accounts.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management to drive informed business decisions.
  • Conduct sales analytics, using available insights to provide solutions to customer needs.
  • Effectively manage trade spend against assigned trade budgets. Follow trade compliance and deduction support process.
  • Manage trade payments and deductions in a timely manner.

Relationship Management:

  • Work collaboratively across internal stakeholders of Sales Strategy, Revenue Growth Management, Sales Finance, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Brand Marketing and Commerce Marketing.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales Strategy to design effective campaigns and promotional support to attract new business and grow existing accounts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team in the delivery of new product commercialization
    • Collaborate with external stakeholders including broker, distributors, re-distributor and Field Sales.

Supervision:

  • Reporting into the Director of Sales, Strategic Channels
  • Oversee 3 direct reports in sales roles including 2x account managers, and 1x business development managers.

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree is a plus.
  • Proven track record of success in food service sales, key account management, or business development, with 5-10 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of the food service industry, including key players, distribution channels, and market dynamics.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build lasting relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop effective sales strategies.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a demonstrated ability to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Proficiency in using SAP software and other sales tools to manage accounts and track performance.
  • Must show proven ability to build and maintain strong, effective relationships with customers and functional groups. Must show aptitude to effectively interpret and use multiple information sources to develop customer-specific tactical plans and options.
  • Strong business and financial acumen: advanced business analytics skills, customer P&L agility, ability to plan, track and evaluate trade management
  • Ability to make recommendations for solutions based on information gathered and analyzed from the systems previously mentioned
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of data entry
