Job Description

National Account Manager (Consumer Goods)

Our client, a leading Consumer Goods Company, located in Woodbridge, ON is looking to hire a National Account Manager to join their team on a Permanent, Full-Time basis.

Reporting to the Senior Sales Operations Manager, this role will be responsible for day-to-day duties that support the company’s strategic sales plans specific to Mass and/or Hardware retailers.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Business Development

  • Develop sales growth initiatives in collaboration with Senior Sales Operations Manager to meet or exceed sales goals
  • Conduct market research to determine viable product mixes within national planograms
  • Identify opportunities and trends both within Company and from competitive products that might make sense in assigned retailers
  • Help identify events and product displays, then work in cooperation with core team (product management, forecasting, logistics) to produce, sell, and execute within Canadian retail group
  • Travel as required by business conditions to call on key customers, gather market intelligence or attend trade shows
  • Design sales presentations with pertinent content to business partners.

2. Business Analytics & Reporting

  • Work in cooperation with Senior Sales Operations Manager— Canada and forecasting team to gather retail POS, analyze category, predict future business and suggest alternative solutions
  • Track purchase orders, forecasts, in store inventory levels, on time shipments and relevant data to ensure smooth daily operations of each retail account
  • Responsible to work collaboratively with internal team to monitor and address key account compliance issues/charges such as fill rate, on-time shipping, etc.
  • Provide regular updates on competitive issues and sales activity in the Canadian market
  • Work with all departments to resolve any issues that restrict business position with customers in your sales accounts (i.e. help Credit Department to help collect delinquent payments when needed).

3. Relationship Building

  • Develop and maintain working relationship with retail account key personnel. This could include the buyer, business analyst, forecasting, logistics, marketing and advertising associates, depending on the account
  • Participation in conference calls with representatives from our retail account base

3. E-commerce (5-10%)

  • Work collectively with sales team to monitor all applicable Canadian websites to ensure Company products appear accurate and maintain updated information.
  • Work with account teams on online activities, price changes, content, available video and Brand Page opportunities.
  • Support and advise on all matters related to Key Accounts and other websites

5. Other

  • Ability to self start and move forward special projects and sales initiatives in a timely manner

Education and/or Experience:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university
  • 2 - 5 years of retail National Account Management experience, preferably for consumer products at Mass Merchant or Hardware retailers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Bilingual in English and Canadian (an asset)

Knowledge & Ability:

  • Thorough understanding of the retailer landscape in Canada
  • Proven success developing, presenting, and implementing business plans
  • Proven success directly managing and selling to national retailers
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and grow relationships within Canadian retailers
