Job Description

Director of Supply Chain

Our client, a leading Consumer Goods company located in the Kitchener/ Waterloo area is looking to hire a Director Supply Chain.

Reporting into the COO, the Director Supply Chain will be responsible for maximizing the supply chain reliability, efficiency and effectiveness in a growing production/manufacturing operation. The incumbent will develop and execute strategic improvement programs; provide tactical support when required, in the areas of: production planning, inventory management, contracting, warehousing and distribution; and manage the execution of co-pack manufacturing agreements.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction, and when necessary, hands-on tactical support in all supply chain functions.
  • Develop operating budget for supply chain function and ensure actively monitoring and control of supply chain expenses to meet/exceed budget.
  • Develop and implement effective supply chain strategies, programs and improvement initiatives to maximize the efficiencies and effectiveness of the supply chain function, strengthen and enhance the supply chain capability, and improve supply chain operating and business processes.
  • Maintain relationships with co-pack manufacturing contacts and act as key company liaison to ensure ongoing positive business relationships with key customer personnel
  • Actively contribute to the Senior Management team and successfully lead and drive initiatives that promote the achievement of the corporate goals and objectives.
  • Lead and oversee the management of inventory to effectively balance cashflow, best-in-class product lead times and inventory turn rates
  • Lead and oversee the management of demand forecasting and production planning to effectively manage and optimize inventory levels
  • Lead and oversee the sourcing and purchasing function, including contract management, sourcing strategies, agreement negotiations, and actively seek new supply solutions to optimize the cost and value equation.
  • Lead supplier cost reduction and quality & service improvement initiatives
  • Monitor and stay current on industry and commodity changes which may impact pricing, new products and supply continuity.
  • Ensure supply contingency plans are in place to manage risk in the supply chain
  • Direct the hiring, training, supervision, mentoring and performance management of supply chain staff

Qualifications:

  • A related degree, or a professional supply chain management designation or certification
  • 7+ years’ experience in a supply chain management function in the consumer-packaged goods industry; with preference to candidates with experience in the food and/or beverage industry
  • 5+ years’ experience leading/managing people
  • Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning applications and technologies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
