Job Description

Controller (Consumer Goods)

Our client, a growing Consumer Goods company, located in Commerce Township, Michigan is looking to hire a Controller to join their team on a Permanent, Full-time basis.

Reporting into the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for managing and directing the financial activities of the company to ensure the attainment of financial goals and objectives.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and exceptional analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes.
  • Analyze financial data and performance metrics to provide insights and recommendations for improving financial performance.

2. Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting standards.

3. Accounting Operations:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management.
  • Process payroll for specific plants
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.

4. Cash Management:

  • Manage cash flow and liquidity to support operational needs and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor banking activities and optimize cash balances to maximize returns.

5. Tax Planning and Compliance:

  • Coordinate with external tax advisors to develop tax strategies and ensure compliance with all tax regulations.
  • Prepare and file tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, and other regulatory filings.

6. Audit and Compliance:

  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate annual audits and reviews, including the preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation.

7. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the accounting and finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop staff, providing training and guidance to support their professional growth.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation a plus.

Experience:

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles
  • Strong technical proficiency in financial reporting, GAAP, and accounting principles.
  • Proven track record of implementing process improvements and driving operational efficiencies.
  • Experience working in Consumer Goods or a similar industry preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
