Job Description

Financial Analyst / Cost Accountant

Company: We are a Canadian Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) company that has been delivering brand success since 1945.

Job Summary: This position reports to the Senior Financial Analyst. The successful candidate will play an essential part in consolidating, shaping and developing budgets and forecasts; develop standard costing as requested and update costing data on timely basis; consolidate and communicate data from multiple sources to provide meaningful and useful insight to management on key business issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure budgets/forecasts are accurate, comprehensive and completed per timelines as established with V.P Finance;
  • Prepare data and analyze operational performance compared to budget and forecast, and communicate variances to the leadership team;
  • Prepare, analyze and report monthly and quarterly the gross margin analysis by product;
  • Assist in month-end closing and prepare journal entries as required;
  • Develop and maintain a consistent and reliable method for calculating standard costing for each product;
  • Own and execute the on-going standard cost process to keep costing up to date;
  • Play an integral role in costing new products for the new business development team;
  • Manage and/or participate in special projects;
  • Other duties as assigned by the management.

Qualification Standards:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Business;
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred or a student working towards the last phase of the above designation is required;
  • Self-Starter with working knowledge and a minimum three years of meaningful experience in financial analysis / cost accountant;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite (advanced user of Excel) and other enterprise software, with ability to develop custom reports;
  • Ability to grow with the business.
