The Senior Pension & Benefits
Specialist is responsible for providing strategic insight and expertise in the
administration, governance and design for Arterra’s Pension & Benefits
programs. This includes supporting the DC and DB pension plan administration,
Benefits and Wellness program administration. Acts as the Subject Matter Expert
to P&C team and leaders in the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Pension & Benefits Program
Administration – own and support all Pension & Benefits
administration, including:
- DB & DC Plan Administration –
owns pension plan administration, including maintaining legislative
requirements for plans and necessary updates, employee enrolment,
oversight of retiree journey, process and coordinate with all vendors for invoicing/renewals/negotiations,
liase with Insurance providers and Actuaries, and completes regulatory
filings.
- Benefits Administration – owns
benefits plan administration including recommending plan design updates,
partnering with vendors (Acclaim Ability, Sunlife) on annual filings and
analysis.
- Business Partnering - act as a
subject matter expert and business partner specific to Arterra’s pension
and benefits offerings. This involves partnering with the People &
Culture Business Partner team and business leaders to address escalated
questions and situations for retirees, education and increase
comprehension of individual circumstances (ie. DB vs. DC, union membership
etc.), provide SME advice on exceptions as needed, create and provide communication/educational
materials for comprehension in business for Pension & Benefits
programs.
- Research, Market Benchmarking
& Maintaining Competitiveness – Continuously assess and benchmark
Arterra’s Pension plans and Benefits programs. This includes measuring
plans costs, uptake, and success against trends on the market at
comparable Canadian organizations. Ensure program offerings are
competitive and compelling to employees, and on trend with changes in
industry. Participate in annual Benefits survey submissions and survey
result analysis.
- System & Data Integrity –
maintain data integrity of Arterra’s Pension & Benefits processes in
Arterra’s Human Resources Information System (Workday). This includes
auditing data for accuracy and compliance, maintaining business processes
specific to Pension & Benefits (pension plan enrolment, beneficiary
changes/updates, etc.). Input annual budget metrics specific to Pension
& Benefits, including benefits rates, health tax rates, pension
adjustments, EI rates, and insurance rates.
Qualifications
Education:
- University Degree in Human
Resources Management, Commerce, or Business Administration
- Certified Human Resources People/Leader
Designation
- Certified Employee Benefits
Specialist Designation
Experience:
- 6-8 years experience in Pension
& Benefits administration
