Based in our Innovation Centre in
Niagara Falls, Ontario, the Senior Packaging Technologist is a key member of
the Operations Innovation Team, reporting directly to the VP Operations
Innovation. The role is responsible for delivering Arterra’s packaging
initiatives including but not limited to packaging sustainability, packaging
innovation, packaging development initiatives and packaging related testing
protocols and continuous improvement initiatives.
What you will be
doing:
- Help build and enhance a
continuous improvement culture. Seek out and implement best
practices to optimize efficiencies and prioritize critical initiatives and
functions
- Lead packaging development
work for the following key areas: Sustainability, Innovation, Direct to
Consumer; Co-Pack/Business Development, Design to Value/Supply Risk
Mitigation.
- Collaborate with the key
stakeholders to create new innovative products or concepts. Support
the creation of a robust project passport, ensuring the product is
clearly identified
- Create packaging
development schedules that are required to meet project timelines/Stage-Gates.
Work within the PM system to ensure efficient communication to all
stakeholders
- Work with project manager
and supply chain team members to design and conduct plant trials.
Lead plant trials keeping detailed records of trial outcomes
- Create component setup and
work instructions
- Establish strong
relationships with key business stakeholders to clearly understand the
vision of the business. Develop packaging strategies to support the
business objectives.
- Drive the continuous
improvement agenda to maximize efficiencies, flexibility, and productivity
of the packaging process across the Arterra network. Collaborate with
cross-functional partners and suppliers, to help drive improvements
throughout the business.
- Understand packaging
equipment capabilities across all Arterra facilities. Share this knowledge
internally with key stakeholders.
- Liaise with engineering,
operations, and procurement on new packaging equipment identification
process.
What you bring:
- Bachelor's Degree;
Engineering, Packaging Technology, Food Science
- 5+ years of experience in
Packaging Development; preferably in the wine/alcohol industry
- Experience in Project
Management, leading cross-functional teams, and using a Stage-Gate process
preferred.
- Working knowledge of the
food industry; preference for experience in wine/alcohol industry
- Requires strong written and
oral communication skills, planning and organization skills, and strong
analytical abilities.
- Capable of working
independently and staying organized while assuming multiple
responsibilities and tasks.
- Ability to motivate, problem
solve, deal with ambiguity, and effectively prioritize business needs.
