Reporting to the Vice President, People and Culture (P&C) the Senior Manager, HRIS and Payroll has prime oversight and leads the development and execution of Arterra’s Shared Services & Systems strategy that support the company’s People strategy, overall business strategy and long-term growth plan.

Working in collaboration with Centre Of Excellence (COE) and Business Partner (BP) process owners, Technology & Digital department and functional stakeholders. The Senior Manager leads and oversees the build, launch, education, communication and adoption of all P&C processes (i.e. Attraction & Onboarding, Absence, Benefits & Payroll, Talent Management, Learning, Security, Integrations, Org Planning etc.) in Workday (Arterra’s People Information System). With deep technical expertise and strong leadership contributes both as a subject matter expert as well as providing strategic oversight as a member of the P&C leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Continuous Improvement:

  • Establish and oversee the maintenance and implementation of enhancements and strategic direction of the Company’s People Information System (currently Workday).
  • Identify and develop tactical solutions to automate and streamline business processes and human resource services for the organization, including daily system functionality and P&C department annual events within the Workday system.

P&C Systems / HRIS, Payroll & PRC:

  • Oversee the P&C Shared Services department execution of Workday system; processes, and people-focused service & program administration to create an exceptional company-wide employee end user system experience

Annual Cycles & Reporting:

  • Oversee the administration of all annual cycles in Workday (i.e. benefit, pension, compensation {merit & short-term incentive} performance management, goal setting, succession and calibration)

Governance & Project Management

  • Identify system changes and enhancements; prioritize configuration to streamline business process and improve functionality, create an exceptional end-user experience
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement, high data integrity, accuracy and lead continuous process improvement initiatives and/or remediation efforts if and when control gaps are identified.
  • Responsible for managing various P&C projects relating to P&C technology such as system enhancements, program and module implementations and other IT system integrations.

People Leadership, Partnering & Other Responsibilities:

  • Motivate, coach, and develop a highly skilled and technical team of various P&C disciplines.
  • Provide safe and supportive environment of personal growth and development and provide feedback during regular cadences. Identity and develop a successor.
  • Collaborate with peers across the P&C team to build credibility of the COE function by providing valued input on business issues facing organization as it relates to automation, process improvement and system time efficiencies.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or equivalent (MBA an asset)
  • 8-10 years progressively responsible roles across various areas in HR, specifically: compensation, payroll, benefits and HRIS. Preference to candidates with experience in Canadian benefit programs and payroll practices.
  • 3 to 5 years leadership experience in a similar capacity- people and organizational.
  • Experience with cloud-based HCM/HR systems (Workday a strong asset)
  • Strong critical thinking and quantitative/qualitative analytical skills. Project management experience regarding system enhancements and implementations an asset
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with statistical tools including SPSS, SAS, R and E-Views
  • Advanced Excel and system skills
  • Excellent communication skills required (both verbal and written). Experience interacting with senior business and functional managers, as well as executive management; Board of Directors experience an asset.
  • CHRL designation an asset
  • Bilingual (EN/FR) an asset
