Job Description

The National Quality Improvement Specialist is responsible for the implementation and monitoring performance of quality programs to ensure compliance to Arterra Wines Canada standards & procedures. Responsibilities include analysis of data, report writing and the development of new inspection methods. This role works closely and directly with R&D, National Purchasing and Operations teams. This role may also work with core suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the qualification and testing of new materials, working closely with R&D Packaging Technologists. Co-ordinate Line Trials and inspections with all operations sites, plan, co-ordinate and conduct inspections and product performance testing, consolidate, manage & analyze results and report results. Research and develop new qualification inspection and test methods as required.
  • Lead or conduct internal audits in accordance with Arterra Wines Canada quality management system & ISO 9001. Conduct 2nd party audits to support Supplier or Co-manufacture, or Co-packer evaluations, qualifications or approvals.
  • Investigate & analyze quality incidents and failures nationally, provide technical assistance & trouble shooting related to Packaging Dry Goods, Ingredients and Raw materials.
  • Conduct data analysis & provide support for quality improvement projects. Implement solutions for quality improvements with Operations and Suppliers. Transfer of Best practices / ISO procedures across Operations.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement/Lean Manufacturing and Problem-Solving initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required


  • Post-secondary education, Science degree (B.Sc.) or equivalent
  • 3-5 years working within the Consumer Packaging Goods industry with a solid understanding of Packaging Specifications and Testing
  • Proven track record with project measurables to demonstrate effectiveness and improvements realized.
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills with the ability to influence others.
  • Attention to detail, cooperative and flexible.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies & tools; Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience with Problem solving strategies & techniques; 8-D, PDCA
  • Fundamentals of ISO 9001, and/or knowledge of HACCP & GMP’s
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft applications
  • Statistical Analysis
