Job Description

Actively participates in all areas of federal, provincial and international income tax compliance and planning matters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews corporate income tax returns, payments, workpapers, other documentation and other compliance to ensure accurate and timely reporting of taxes.
  • Prepares and reviews tax provisions for actuals and Plans, rate reconciliations, book/tax differences using Corptax tax provision software.
  • Responsible for tax account reconciliations and related workpapers.
  • Prepares quarterly and year end note disclosures related to income taxes in accordance with appropriate accounting standards for the jurisdiction.
  • Liaises with external tax advisors and consultants as needed.
  • Manages government audit process and works directly with government auditors.
  • Assists with the development of corporate policies for global transfer pricing strategies and prepares documentation.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of internal controls for tax functions.
  • Liaises with other departments in the company including Legal, Treasury, General Accounting and Operations.
  • Stays informed of tax legislation changes from governments, performs tax research and identifies tax-saving opportunities for the company.
  • Will cross train with Commodity Tax Manager responsible for sales tax, excise tax, wine taxes and reporting to liquor boards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in Finance or Accounting and CPA designation.
  • CPA In-Depth Tax Course.
  • 5-10 years of applicable experience including industry experience.
  • Experience with global transfer pricing.
  • Excellent knowledge of business processes, specifically inventory, sales and purchases and legal entity financial reporting.

OTHER

  • Experience with JDE, Hubble, Corptax and Taxprep is an asset.
  • Experience in the alcoholic beverage industry is an asset.
  • Experience in a manufacturing industry is an asset.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Must work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Some evenings and weekend work may be required in order to meet tax filing deadlines.
