The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication programs to enhance the company’s reputation with employees and external stakeholders (media, industry associations, OTPP, potential candidates). This role will manage internal communications and act as a strategic advisor to the business to support company communications across a variety of channels including company intranet. They will also support the corporate reputation plan, which includes issues and crisis management, executive communications and CSR.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs, and Senior Manager, Brand PR on executing the corporate reputation plan. This may include working with an external agency partner on strategic PR programs, Corporate Social Responsibility, issues and crisis management, helping executives prepare for internal / external presentations, managing content for AWC owned channels including website and social media.
  • Act as strategic business advisor cross-functionally to support teams with their communication needs. Work collaboratively to build strategic communications plans leveraging a variety of internal (i.e. intranet, meetings, message boards etc.) and external channels (i.e. corporate website, social media – LinkedIn etc.). Support Organizational Change Management efforts as required.
  • Engage in ongoing media relations by building relationships with key trade and business media and industry associations (i.e. WGO, WGBC, ANEV, WGNS). Support proactive and reactive media relations ensuring positive company coverage. Prepare company spokespeople with detailed briefs, messaging sessions and media training as required.
  • Responsible for the consistent measurement and reporting of the corporate reputation plan leveraging industry standards and best practices. Communicate activities and results through internal channels (e.g. intranet, leadership meetings, board meetings etc.) Stay on top of emerging industry stories and seek proactive media relations opportunities throughout the year.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in communications, public relations or journalism
  • 6-8 years in in public relations/communications role
  • Strong media relations experience preference to candidates with experience in food industry or beverage alcohol.
  • Proven project management experience
  • Proven experience managing / maximizing effectiveness of external agencies
  • French speaking capabilities an asset
