Job Description

This role is responsible for delivering demand accuracy targets through successful utilization and continuous improvement of Arterra Wines Canada’s demand planning tools, respective processes and collaboration with our Commercial teams.

Demand Planning:

  • Develop and lead the demand planning process within our Western business channels
  • Use JDA and offline resources to maintain the record of demand, including baselines, promotions and listings
  • Lead monthly/weekly collaborative reviews with key stakeholders (Sales, Marketing, Trade Marketing and Production)
  • Institutionalize common Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes, collaborative tools and collaborative communications
  • Continuously develop, improve and consolidate the demand planning forecast(s), respective targets and key performance indicators
  • Analyze and maintain accurate & detailed rolling monthly demand plans at the SKU/channel level applying adjustments, through cross-functional collaboration
  • Partner with key stakeholders on specific company objectives related to product conversions, run-outs and new product introduction
  • Collaborate with Sales & Business Insights on promotional activity to enable best view into projected volume requirements
  • Ensure forecast consumption takes place and develop corrective actions in conjunction with the Sales and Marketing teams upon variance
  • Conduct in-depth gap analysis to meet/exceed forecast Bias and MAPE targets
  • Collaborate with Sales & Business Insights to establish volume requirements as part of NPD (New Product Development) process
  • Initiate improvement ideas to streamline the business and improve processes enabling the best possible demand plan
  • Work closely with Supply Chain & Production to identify and resolve changes in the demand plan and the impact on Supply Chain
  • As part of the Demand Review meeting, identify/present regional demand plan gaps to Financial Plan/Latest Estimates (LE), key drivers and actions to close the gaps based on collaborative regional reviews
  • Meet/exceed the Mean Absolute Percentage Error Performance (MAPE) targets
  • Develop and maintain expertise in Demand Planning/JDA through cross functional training, best practice sharing within the team

Key Decisions:

  • Final decision maker on JDA demand requirement enabling product availability through Production Planning
  • Partner with Regional Sales Managers, Directors and VP’s to decide on appropriate baselines for Financial Plan/LE volumes
  • Decisions made on NPD (new product development) to establish volumetric requirements for stage gate product launch process (business case)
  • Process improvements

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s or College degree in supply chain management or related field or relevant professional designation (i.e. APICS, CPIM)
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • 1-3 years demand planning or production planning experience
  • Proven technical skills in Demand Planning Software (JDA an asset)
  • Highly skilled in analytics
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Capacity to build, maintain and continually enhance relationships; including at a distance
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of supply chain (forecasting, production planning and inventory control)
  • Strong knowledge of ERP tools sets (J.D. Edwards an asset)
  • Good knowledge of the production processes, product and information flow
  • Excellent communication skills in a team environment, both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage pressure and conflicting requests as well as excellent problem solving capabilities
  • Sound analytical, decision making and time-management skills
  • Change management skills are required
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain tools and technologies
  • Ability to succeed in an environment of minimal supervision (offsite manager)
  • Ability to travel 4-6 times per year within Canada
